At Panel Graphic, we’re often asked to help customers extend the life of their equipment rather than replace it. A recent project involved the refurbishment of a well-used injection moulding machine front panel that had become worn, damaged and unusable after years of service in a demanding manufacturing environment.
Instead of replacing the entire machine or compromising on functionality, we remanufactured the front panel using modern materials and manufacturing techniques to restore and upgrade its appearance, improve durability and ensure it was ready for many more years of operation.

Recreating the Original Front Panel
The original front panel had suffered from the effects of daily use, with worn graphics and a damaged display window reducing both usability and appearance.
Our team began by producing a detailed technical drawing before sitting down with the customer to carefully recreate the original artwork. This also provided the perfect opportunity for them to refresh the design, updating the graphics to align with their latest branding while retaining the familiar layout of the existing machine. The result was a new graphic overlay that not only reflected the customer’s current brand identity but also incorporated significantly improved materials for enhanced durability and performance.
The graphics were digitally printed onto a high-quality polyester overlay with CA-210 industrial adhesive applied to the reverse, providing a reliable, long-lasting bond once installed.

Improving Durability with Optiguard™ Hard-Coated Polycarbonate
One of the biggest improvements came from replacing the damaged viewing window with our Optiguard™ clear hard-coated polycarbonate.
Unlike standard polycarbonate, Optiguard™ has been engineered to provide exceptional resistance to:
- Chemical exposure
- Abrasion and light scratching
- Industrial cleaning products
- Everyday wear and tear
- Harsh manufacturing environments
This hard-coated polycarbonate window helps maintain excellent optical clarity while protecting the display beneath, making it ideal for injection moulding machines, industrial control panels, operator interfaces and other demanding applications.
Precision Manufacturing for a Perfect Fit
Once printed, the polyester overlay was precision plotter cut to create openings for controls and a perfectly positioned clear display window.
The finished overlay and hard-coated polycarbonate panel were manufactured to fit the customer’s existing equipment, allowing them to restore the machine without costly redesigns or replacement parts.
The result is a front panel that not only looks like new but also offers significantly greater durability than the original component.
Extending Equipment Life Through Refurbishment
Industrial equipment often remains mechanically sound long after its operator interface has deteriorated.
By remanufacturing front panels, graphic overlays and membrane keypads, manufacturers can:
- Extend the service life of valuable machinery.
- Improve operator usability and safety.
- Refresh worn or outdated graphics.
- Reduce maintenance and replacement costs.
- Minimise downtime compared with replacing complete assemblies.
This approach is often a cost-effective alternative to purchasing new equipment while delivering a professional finish and improved long-term performance.
